What is Dyslexia? Dyslexia is a brain based type of learning disability that specifically impairs a persons ability to read and spell. These individual read at levels much lower that expected despite having normal or even superior intelligence. Although the disorder has a wide variety of symptoms and differs from person to person the common characteristics are extreme difficulty with phonological processing, and word recognition.

Remediation and Treatment ? The main course of treatment at Student Learning Recovery is to address the specific learning problems of each student. We utilize a wide variety of visually stimulation memory aids to address the written symbols/sound difficulties and the poor abilities of word recognition. Specific phonics, spelling, and reading programs designed for those with Dyslexia, are incorporated into the program. When treated correctly the prognosis is good despite the age of the student. Individuals who are identified and treated early and receive a proper remediation program, of course ,have a better prognosis in overcoming their learning disability. All reading disorders are not necessarily Dyslexia. Different types of reading disorders may have very similar , if not the same symptoms.
